Fire ScarThe Untold Story of the 1887 Burning of San Jose’s Chinatown

by  Lily Lee

A successful young woman, a motherless ten-year-old girl, a shared trauma separated by over a century. Jessica and Jasmine are united by a nearly identical scar. As Jessica searches for clues about the past, including untold truths about her own family history, she uncovers unspeakable acts of violence that shaped the lives of early Chinese American immigrants, culminating in a brutal act of arson that threatened to destroy their dream of inclusion. With passion, heart, and unflinching candor, Lily K. Lee explores the actual circumstances of the 1887 fire that decimated San Jose’s Chinatown against the backdrop of decades of tragedy, loss, and courageous resilience.

4-star review  - “Fire Scar”

https://www.amazon.com/review/R2UJX3XXEWLCCJ/ref=pe_1098610_137716200_cm_rv_eml_rv0_rv

A skillfully presented story based on the most shocking history of the Chinese immigrants.

A big applaud to the author, Lily K Lee, who brought the untold story of the burning of San Jose's Chinatown to life with the most skillful storytelling.

The smoke that followed the main character Tuck a long way from the Tacoma fire to San Jose seemed to have followed every Chinese immigrant and the Asians since then, the smoke of racial hatred, smoke of violence.

Lee is successful in keeping the readers spellbound with her storytelling skills, the plots gearing toward the climax, and each character's inner development in the time of suppression and hatred.  A true page-turner indeed.
